It's the missing out bits that I find hard. I find it difficult to accept that I have not understood every single word! I think that is the result of the way I was taught languages as a child 50 years ago! I am quite a bit more adventurous now when speaking and not so frightened about making the odd mistake. I think that one of the keys is to treat the learning as a hobby, not a chore. My wife used to love doing sudoku puzzles for relaxation (and mental exercise!) To me learning Thai is similar to that, except that it has a very practical purpose as well.
The advice about learn one word a day is useful when you have a basic vocabulary, but for it to stay there near the front of your mind so that you can remember it quickly and recognise it naturally, does take lots of practice, or it just slips down into the deep pit of half remembered words. I find that I cannot really remember new vocabulary unless I have read it and written it several times, hearing it just helps with getting the sound right - but then, that's just me. We all have to find our own way of learning that suits us as individuals.
I realise that producing the podcast and especially the written transcription must have taken several hours, so thanks again for that. I am trying very hard not to look at the transcription until I can understand at least 80% of the spoken content.
