dtàt ไฟ
fai ต้น
dtôn ลม
lom
Vocabulary
dtàt = cut off
fai = fire
dtôn = beginning
lom = wind
Literal Meaning
Cut the fire at the beginning of the wind.English Proverb
A stitch in time saves nineExplanation
A forest fire. The wind is blowing, increasing the intensity and driving the fire further and further through the forest. Better by far to tackle the blaze before the wind has a chance to whip up the flames and make the fire spread, making it more difficult or impossible to defeat. Tackle and solve problems when they first appear, while they are still small enough to do something about them, otherwise they will only become worse and overwhelm you.
Example
พวกเราต้องรีบตัดไฟเสียแต่ต้นลมนะ ไม่อย่างนั้นปัญหาจะใหญ่เกินแก้
pûak rao dtông rêep dtàt fai sĭa dtàe dtôn lom ná mâi yàang nán bpan-hăa jà yài gern gâe
We must nip this problem in the bud, it will soon get totally out of hand.

Hi Eric,
I don’t know ตาบอดช่วยตาบอด , is it Thai?
I can guess the meaning though, this it something like useless help?
Mia
Hello Mia,
Yes, it is thai : my wife, from Chaiyaphum, sometimes uses it and it indeed means “a useless help given by someone who first said he was going to be helpful”…
Have a nice day,
Regards,
Eric
Nice ! Blind helping the blind
Keep it up, great job! Just what I had to have.
